Saving Winslow
When ten-year-old Louie’s dad brings home an ailing baby donkey, Louie jumps in with both feet to help save the donkey. As he cares for Winslow around the clock, Louie reflects on his own fragile beginnings and the fate of his brother in the army and he develops more self-confidence and spreads his hopeful attitude to his pessimistic family and his friend Nora. This engaging novel for grades 2-5 deals with loss, hope, resilience, and positive thinking, and is suitable for a class read-aloud, literature circles, and independent reading.
