Scarecrow, The

Ferry, B.
A lonely scarecrow guards a field near a tree when a baby crow falls from its nest. The scarecrow tenderly bends down to rescue the bird and snaps the pole keeping him upright. The scarecrow protects the baby bird until it is strong enough to fly away, leaving the scarecrow alone and broken. But, in spring, the crow returns to his friend and fixes the scarecrow’s pole, and the scarecrow protects the crow’s nest of eggs and keeps it warm and safe. With compelling illustrations and simple rhyming pattern, this picture book explores loneliness, friendship, helping others, and personal growth.
