Sea Wolves: Living Wild in the Great Bear Rainforest

McAllister, I and Read, N.
Sea Wolves is an excellent B.C. resource that connects the lives of sea wolves to the unique environment of B.C.’s Great Bear Rainforest. A good fit for the grade seven science strand Ecology, the book would be best used as a multidisciplinary or language arts resource in grades 4 to 7. It offers an in-depth look at the lives of wolves, and the background information about wolves and their connection to the B.C. wilderness, and the inclusion of facts-“wolf bites””-make this book a useful resource. The colourful photography and captions create an engaging and easy-to-read look into the day-to-day lives of sea wolves. Educators will appreciate the accompanying online learning guide that identifies relevant PLOs, and includes recommendations for further reading, multidisciplinary lesson plans for each chapter, discussion and extension ideas, blackline masters, and activities that attempt to provide for a wide range of learning styles. This strong B.C. resource is appropriate for literature circles, individual reading, and multidisciplinary units of study.
