Shadows on the Sea

Hiatt Harlow, Joan
Set in the 1940s, this historical novel takes place on the Atlantic seaboard in Maine near the Canadian border. While visiting her grandmother, Jill uncovers multiple mysteries and secrets in the small community, including the presence of a nearby German submarine and a group of Nazi sympathizers. Using a variety of dialects (Boston, Maritimes, Atlantic), the author crafts a story (with a strong female protagonist) that is engaging, informative and mysterious.
