The Sheep, the Rooster, and the Duck

Phelan, M.
This humorous adventure is based on the actual first passengers of the hot air balloon in 1783 – a sheep, a rooster, and a duck – and reimagines their life as spies who must save the world. The animals and their human companions search for Benjamin Franklin and his book of inventions before villains can use his work for evil means and they encounter an array of historical characters along the way. Suitable as a class read-aloud to encourage discussion and investigation of 17th century inventions, historical figures, and science topics such as energy transformation or forces and motion, as well as for guided literature circles and independent reading.
