Siha Tooskin Knows: The Catcher of Dreams
Eleven-year-old Siha Tooskin is excited about the approaching birth of his baby sister, and he imagines the amazing life she has ahead of her. His Magoshin – grandmother – comes to visit and tells him about the dream catcher she has made for the baby to protect her while she sleeps by bringing good spirits and positive energy. Suitable as a read-aloud to launch discussion of Indigenous cultural practices, including the purpose of dream catchers, and to introduce the history of Indigenous peoples including residential schools, the human rights violations they have suffered, and Truth and Reconciliation at an age-appropriate level. Compelling and detailed illustrations.
