Sitting Shiva
When Jenny’s mother dies, Jenny sits Shiva for seven days, but wants to be alone in her room, wrapped in the quilt her mother made for her. Her father gently reminds her it is not a time to be alone and when Jenny opens herself to the family, friends, and neighbours who come bearing food, memories, and hugs of support, she realizes the importance of community and finds comfort and safety in grieving her mother with her loved ones. This engaging Canadian picture book highlights the grieving customs of the Jewish faith and deals with death, grief, and relationships in an honest, straightforward way. Information on grieving in Hindu, Islamic, and Christian faiths is included in the final pages.
