Sixties Girl
Eleven-year-old Will struggles with bullying and friendships at school and the last thing he wants to do is spend every Wednesday after school with his grandmother. Much to his surprise, though, when he discovers a suitcase full of his grandmother’s mementos from the 1960s and hears her stories about her youth, he forms a close bond with her and learns an incredible amount about life and events during the rapidly-changing revolutionary nineteen sixties. This engaging Canadian novel, well-suited for a literary circle or novel study, deals with bullying, body shaming, and friendships and can help students develop critical thinking and empathy and build an understanding of Canadian and world history.
