Someday: A Native American Drama

Taylor, D. H.
Set in a fictional Ojibway community, Anne Wabung’s daughter is taken away from her by children’s welfare workers in a traumatic historical event called the “Sixties Scoop,” where policies in place during the 1950s and 1960s resulted in the scoop-up of Indigenous children from their homes. This two-act play uses humour and history to tell the story of how the tragedy has impacted Indigenous communities and of how Anne is finally reunited with her daughter after thirty-five years. In the Grade 9–12 classroom, “Someday” can complement an Indigenous narrative unit and provide insight into the difficult history and the discriminatory policies endured by Indigenous peoples.
