Speak to the Earth

Bell, William
Bryan is a fifteen-year-old who is caught up in the controversy around the Orca Sound (Clayoquot Sound) protest over clear-cut logging. He does not agree with his mother's peaceful-but-lawbreaking commitment to the cause, and is torn between his logger-uncle's vocal support of logging, Walter's (Nootka) respect for the environment and the emerging awareness and concern of his friends. Ultimately, Bryan boldly supports the protest by interrupting the B.C. premier's crucial photo-opportunity.
