Spliced
Jimi has great plans for her future, including attending college with her friend Del, but he runs away to a fringe group to become spliced—genetically altered with animal DNA. When these chimeras are banned and deemed non-human and without rights, Jimi races to find Del before he has the procedure, but to succeed she must reveal a disturbing secret that could affect her future. This suspenseful novel for grades 8-12 has many complex conflicts and themes faced in society today and can launch discussions and debates around racism, discrimination, and oppression. Some social considerations noted.
