Stargazing

Wang, J.
Christine, a Chinese American girl, has her life thrown off balance when her parents rent a suite to Moon and her mother. Although Moon is also Chinese American, she doesn’t fit Christine’s cultural expectations and indeed is the exact opposite to Christine in so many ways. The girls become friends for a time until troubles arise between the two but when it is discovered that Moon has a brain tumour the girls manage to put aside their differences and rekindle their friendship. This engaging, accessible graphic novel for grades 4-7 captures two diverse characters with very different ways of dealing with conflict and emotions and is suitable for independent reading or small group book discussion.
