From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea

The day Miu Lan is born, both the moon and sun are in the sky and Miu Lan just can’t decide whether to be male or female so decides to be a bit of both. Miu Lan is much loved and accepted by their mother and when it’s time to attend school Miu Lan is so excited to make friends but classmates are unkind, not as accepting, and question whether Miu Lan is a boy or girl, and it takes wisdom from Miu Lan’s mother to help Miu Lan realize that you can only be who you are. This colourful Canadian picture book for K-1 deals with self-identity and acceptance and can encourage discussion of stereotypes, gender identity, respecting differences, and belonging.
