Step from Heaven, A
This well-written story is about an immigrant family struggling to find their place in a new country. The abusive father provides a foil for the characters' own struggle and success in America. The novel is not a conventional narrative. It is written as a series of episodes connected in time. Students might find it difficult to follow because of the structure and the point of view of the young protagonist who lives in Korea and doesn't speak any English.
