Stuck in Neutral

Trueman, Terry
This is the story of 14-year-old Shawn McDaniel who, despite an active and thoughtful inner life, is so profoundly debilitated by cerebral palsy that he cannot communicate with any of his family members. To further complicate Shawn’s life, because his father is increasingly becoming an advocate of “mercy killing”, Shawn wonders if his father is going to try to kill him. With an ambiguous ending this intriguing and engaging novel would promote much discussion, both in small groups and as a class.
