Stuntboy, In the Meantime (Volume 1)

Portico Reeves suffers from “frets” – debilitating anxiety – and in order to help him get through daily life and his parents’ upcoming separation he creates the alter ego of Stuntboy, a superhero who sets out to protect people in his community. Portico and his best friend Zola compare situations they encounter to episodes of their favourite show, Super Space Warriors. This novel, with many graphic elements, is suitable for independent reading for grades 5-7 and teachers may find it useful to select excerpts from the story to engage students in identifying text features and exploring forms of storytelling.
