On Thin Ice

This coming of age story follows a half Inuit teenage girl who struggles to figure out who she is and how she fits into the changing world around her. After Ashley moves to Nanurtalik, her connection to polar bears and the mystical world becomes heightened through a series of events and dreams. This story, according to Bastedo, "is intended to feed young people's hunger for outdoor adventure while helping them come to terms with environmental uncertainties that touch their lives" (On Thin Ice).
