Two young girls befriend each other amid the terror and chaos of present-day Afghanistan. The girl who has been raised in Afghanistan faces such conflicts as her brother leaving to join the Taliban, a destitute mother, an abusive uncle and an arranged marriage to an older man. Her friend, born in England and new to the country, has parents who are the target of the Taliban. They escape only to confront land mines, a suicide bomber and the Taliban. They survive, reuniting in England years later.
