For Today I Am a Boy

Fu, K.
Peter, from a traditional Chinese family, is the revered son in a family of daughters and can’t let anyone know his wish – to be female. This coming of age story follows his journey as he tries to hide his private feelings and desires from a very public world, while dealing with situations many teens face, such as getting a first job, dealing with strict parents, and watching siblings leave for college. This Canadian novel, for grades 11-12, deals with current issues, including sexual identity, transgender issues, family dynamics, being an outsider, acceptance, and discovering one’s place in society. Suitable for literature circles or an independent novel. Several social considerations noted.
