TomatoSphere

“Tomatosphere” is an award-winning project that invites students to understand and appreciate food systems and nutrient cycles, particularly in the context of the effects of space on food. Engaging and hands-on investigations and learning opportunities engage students with age-appropriate content that includes videos, visuals, and lesson ideas. Students from Grade K–12 are invited to conduct scientific experiments and compare the germination of two sets of tomato seeds, while connecting their learning with issues related to space exploration. Teachers can use this resource for in-class investigations and lessons. The resource could also segue into extensions to space exploration, astronauts, and the solar system.
