Treaty Tales: The Friendship

Lynxleg, B.
In this second instalment of Treaty Tales, Kookoo (Grandmother) explains the symbiotic relationship between the First Nations people and the first European settlers, including the sharing of indigenous knowledge and trading resources. Children may identify with Neepin, the young girl who journeys through her community with her Grandmother, learning about her culture along the way. This book provides introductory information about Canada’s First Peoples and outlines the treaty process in very simple terms, suitable for primary classes, and would be most useful as a read-aloud to begin generating conversation and thinking around indigenous knowledge and rights.
