Twelve Steps to Normal
When sixteen-year-old Kira’s alcoholic father is sent to a rehabilitation centre she moves from Texas to live with her aunt in Oregon for eleven months and when she returns to Texas she discovers her father has moved three of his cohorts from the rehab centre into the home. As Kira learns to deal with this new situation, she must also deal with old friends and old and new boyfriends. This contemporary coming-of-age story deals with issues of addiction and its impact, relationships with family and friends, grief, loss, rejection, guilt, love, and acceptance, and is suitable for a read-aloud, independent, or literature circle novel for grades 9-12.
