Two Sisters, The
A great Salish chief’s two daughters bring two warring tribes together and share food, music, and friendship to celebrate and when the Creator sees the peace that the sisters have facilitated, he rewards them by immortalizing them as mountain peaks – now known as The Lions – at Capilano Canyon. This picture book is based on Pauline Johnson’s recording of the traditional legend in 1911 as told to her by Chief Joe Capilano. The easy-to-read text is accompanied by detailed, vibrant illustrations that will engage students and rich reference materials at the end of the book. The text supports Indigenous worldviews and perspectives and can be used to explore the history of Coast Salish culture.
