Before the Usual Time: A Collection of Indigenous Stories, Poems and Art

This Canadian collection of Indigenous voices focuses on the broad concept of time, including personal, traditional, and futuristic perceptions. Through the genres of poetry, narrative, fiction, and non-fiction, the selections explore Indigenous Peoples’ history, culture, traditions, and connections, and the impact of colonialism, intergenerational trauma, and residential schools. Suitable for grade 10-12 classrooms to explore Canadian Indigenous perspectives and enhance curricular content. Note that some of the experiences described may trigger students of similar backgrounds and experiences.
