Walking Home

Walters, E.
Muchoki has lost his father to ethnic and political violence in their hometown in Kenya, and his mother to malaria in a refugee camp. Muchoki and his younger sister walk hundreds of miles and face dangers as they travel through Kenya to find their estranged grandparents, in hope of finding a home and family. This engaging novel documents the trauma and violence suffered by the two main characters and explores the themes of going home, sanctuary, violence, and human nature. A companion website provides background information about Kenya's history, current political situation, and the author's journey while researching and writing the novel.
