Wars, The
Robert Ross is a 19-year-old who, prompted by his sister’s death, enlists in the Canadian army during World War I. Throughout his training and on the front lines, Robert struggles with issues of guilt, sexuality and companionship. Animals provide almost the only solace for his loneliness and sadness. The sum of Robert’s experience, which includes the loss of his sister, the horrors of war, heartbreak, and even rape, leads to his eventual insubordination and death.
