Watchmen

Moore, A.
In an alternate reality that closely parallels the 1980s, a number of superheroes emerged in the 1930s and worked as vigilante crime fighters until public and political pressure caused them to retire or go underground. When one of them dies, a previous member of the Watchmen leads an investigation into the death and unearths a plan to end Cold War tensions by endangering the Earth, and the Watchmen are once again needed to protect the world. This award-winning graphic novel is suitable for independent study or a literature circle for socially and emotionally mature grade 11-12 students with explicit teacher instruction and intervention. Social considerations noted.
