Water Princess, The
In Burkina Faso, young Gie Gie and her mom spend many hours each morning walking to find water to carry home for their family to use for drinking, washing, and cleaning. As she labours each day, she dreams of finding a way to bring clean, good water to her village. This award-winning picture book, based on the life of Burkina Faso-born model Georgia Badiel, is a useful read-aloud choice to raise issues of the plight of people who do not have access to clean drinking water, the disparity between living conditions in first and third world countries, human rights, climate and environment, global issues, gender expectations and responsibilities, and to encourage community-based events to support global issues.
