Water Walker, The
When an elder tells Nokomis (grandmother) Josephine that eventually an ounce of water will cost more than an ounce of gold she decides to make a difference by walking to raise awareness about water conservation. Joined by her peers, she walks the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence River, and throughout North America until she needs new shoes and new knees. This picture book offers opportunities for critical thinking about water use, conservation of resources, and respect for the Earth and the environment, and can be used for independent or partner reading, research projects, and as a read-aloud to encourage discussions, journal writing, letter writing, and debates.
