What Makes Us Unique Our First Talk About Diversity

Roberts, J.
This Canadian picture book, aimed at children in K-3, introduces the topic of diversity through simple language and bright, colourful illustrations that include people of different cultures, ages, and abilities. Different types of families are also portrayed in a matter-of-fact, non-judgemental way. Useful as a read-aloud, for class or school library, and a teacher resource, it also could be used to debrief and launch discussion after a distressing event or as a discussion starter to introduce challenging topics such as sexual orientation, racism, prejudice, or discrimination.
