When the Moon Comes

Harbridge, P.
When the local beaver flood finally freezes and the ice is ripple-free, a group of children wait impatiently for the full Moon to finally arrive. When it does, in the bright moonlight, the friends trek through the woods and out to the beaver flood for their first pond-hockey game of the year. This engaging and nostalgic Canadian picture book celebrates friendship, hockey, and winter, would be suitable as a read-aloud, can introduce the use of figurative and descriptive language, and also serve as a model for a variety of art projects. The rich images help create the sense of cold and winter atmosphere that the children experience on their adventure.
