Wishtree
Red, a wise old oak tree, has lived in the community for generations and every May 1st wishes have been tied to its branches. When a Muslim family moves to the community many treat them unkindly, but when Samar, the daughter, makes a wish for a friend, Red and its animal friends work to help Samar's wish come true and, in return, Samar and her new friend find a way to save Red from being cut down. This engaging story, suitable for grades 3-6, focuses on themes including diversity, inclusion, kindness, and love, and is suitable for lit circles, class read-aloud or novel study, guided reading lesson, or for independent reading or novel study.
