Year Down Yonder, A

Peck, Richard
This short novel, winner of the 2001 Newbery Medal, is set during the Depression. It describes the trials and tribulations of a 15-year-old city girl who must spend an entire year in the country with her witty and unpredictable grandma. The story will appeal to girls and would integrate well with a unit on life during the 1930s. This novel portrays positive role models and different points of view in a humorous way.
