This coming-of-age story is about Skiff, a boy who is trying to keep his family together after the death of his mother, despite the fact that his dad is drinking and unresponsive. After the family’s boat sinks, Skiff vows to repair both the boat and the family business. Despite his father’s apathy and withdrawal from the community and family, Skiff implements several plans to raise the necessary money, all the while dreaming of the ‘big haul’.
