Max and Jordan are from different worlds with different social groups and interests, but they share being homosexual and raised by their mothers. They meet at Jordan’s family food truck and Max ends up working with Jordan to make enough money to pay off Jordan’s mom’s gambling debts. They develop a romantic relationship that helps them deal with their own conflicts and issues and develop confidence and stronger personal identities. This novel for mature, senior students can be used for literature circles, independent reading, or a writer’s workshop, and examines gender identity, sexual orientation, self-identity, anxiety, depression, sexual harassment and assault, and personal growth.
