Each Kindness

Woodson, J.
Maya is friendly, generous, and courageous and tries to make friends at her new school, but Chloe and her friends reject Maya’s approaches due to her second-hand clothes and old-fashioned toys. One day Maya does not come to school as her family has moved and following a lesson on the impact of small kindnesses, Chloe is regretful that she never showed kindness to Maya. This poignant picture book could be used as a read-aloud for grades K-3, added to a class or school library, and can launch discussion of important topics of kindness, friendship, inclusion, exclusion, diversity, bullying, the effects of withholding friendship, and the impact of one’s actions.
