I Am Not A Chair!

Burach, R.
A young giraffe’s first day in the jungle does not go as expected as he is mistaken for a chair and he can’t muster the courage to tell the other animals that he is not a chair. He builds a real chair to show them the difference but it doesn’t work and he is taken home by a human who also uses him as a chair. Finally, the giraffe finds the courage to tell his friends that he is not a chair and he finally feels accepted by the animals. This humourous picture book, with colourful, larger-than-life illustrations, will engage primary children and is suitable as a read-aloud to start discussion of standing up for oneself, finding inner courage, assertiveness, self-esteem, individual differences, and making assumptions.
