Chief: Mistahimaskwa, The

Robertson, D. A.; Henderson, S. B.
Sarah, a young Cree girl, is learning about Chief Mistahimaskwa—Big Bear—at school. On her walk home from school, she encounters a bear and drops her textbook. When she retrieves it the next day, it has been struck by lightning and become magical; as she opens the book, it comes alive with the story of The Chief. Sarah is taken back to the Saskatchewan Plains of 1832 and she re-lives many of the key events of The Chief’s life. This boldly illustrated, compelling graphic novel is aimed at a young audience (Gr. 4-6).
