Speaking Our Truth: A Journey of Reconciliation

This easy-to-read and well-designed resource introduces upper elementary students to Residential Schools and reconciliation in Canada. Useful as a text for independent reading or read-aloud, it includes many interviews with survivors of Residential Schools and their ancestors who are elementary students. The resource clearly explains concepts and introduces topics such as Orange Shirt Day and the Witness Blanket, and lends itself to discussions that would provide opportunities to extend thinking. Includes an index, additional reading list, online resource list, glossary, list of Residential Schools, and an accompanying teacher’s resource guide.
